The Game
The Great Winter Get Out is a season long reason to get out and enjoy our beautiful cold winters, making people excited about our city and getting active outdoors ALL year. GWGO is a scavenger hunt and activity game. There is a bulk list of challenges that can be done as well as monthly and daily challenges. Take evidence in the form of a picture or video using the Goosechase app which will tally scores and show a live feed of everyone’s participation. There are more challenge items than can realistically be accomplished by any one person, the idea is to do what you can, and what you like, and challenge yourself to #getoutbuffalo
2023 GWGO Brought to you by Kara Kenny for hair! Kara is not only a supporter but also a many year participant! We are honored to have her on board this year to help make an increasingly expensive event possible. Thank You!!
The Rules
- TGWGO is an event for individuals. However some challenges are group activities. Individuals points and progress are tracked in the GooseChase app.
- Participations is free – The event sponsored by the Campus Cycling Collective aims to get more Buffalonians out and active in the beautiful weather we have from December – March. Cost should not be a barrier. This year Kara Kenney for Hair is helping keep it that way!
- The smart phone app we are using to run the game is Goosechase. Download it and search for the event name: The Great Winter Get Out 2023. Within the app create a username. It will ask you to create a password as well. Make yourself a fun username!
- All Challenges must be completed by Bike, Ski, or Snowshoes.
- You or your bicycle/skis/snowshoes must be in all pictures.
- Some challenges will be more specific than the first two rules; be sure to read all challenges closely.
- If you live outside of Buffalo and drive into the city, you must pick a staging location and start from there every time. Be prepared to show GPS proof.
- You are not allowed to drive to other cities or closer to challenges to complete challenges. If you drove into work and would like to go for a ride from there that is also allowed. You can drive to locations to do ski and snowshoe specific challenges, but it would be cooler if you didn’t.
- E-bikes are allowed for all challenges, but riding one makes you ineligible for monthly Mileage points or bonus points if you use an E-bike on challenges worth 2000 or more points.
- Main season challenges will be released on December 17th at 8 AM.
- Moderators will delete Submissions that do not meet the challenge requirements. Moderators will try to keep up daily, but a submission can be deleted at any point in the game. There will be an end of season “Purge” to delete the last of the submissions that do not meet requirements.
